Maine School Management Association Chooses CHSI Connections

CHSI Technologies, Inc., a provider of enterprise-class insurance software, continues to service public self-insured groups, and is pleased to add Maine School Management Association (MSMA) to its roster of satisfied clients.

MSMA, a state-wide non-profit federation that administers various insurance programs to the state’s school systems, successfully launched the policy and underwriting module of CHSI Connections® core systems software suite, using the software specifically to securely and efficiently process online renewals of property and casualty (P&C) coverage for its 98-member school districts.

The mission of MSMA’s Property and Casualty Insurance Trust is to provide comprehensive insurance solutions for the unique risk management challenges that Maine school systems face as a public educational entity. “Connections is part of our ongoing objective to improve the administration of the Trust,” says Deborah Roberts, CFO and Trust Administrator.

Prior to leveraging Connections, MSMA relied on an arduous manual process that involved processing a 17-page document with 500 questions. Upon joining MSMA, Roberts suggested the organization evaluate and simplify processes where appropriate, starting with the 17-page renewal form she herself had processed in her previous leadership role at a member school district.

Anita Folckemer, who, in her role managing MSMA’s P&C Trust, interfaces with members on a daily basis, adds, “I always knew that when I sent out those renewal apps to 98 members – I could hear a collective groan on the other side, so it was time to enhance the program and improve service to the members.”

Of Connections’ many software modules, the policy administration and underwriting module automates the collection of information and the creation of quotes, endorsements, cancellations, audits and renewals. For MSMA, it will safely and securely facilitate data transmission via a portal from members back to the organization’s policy system.

“We know underwriting requires the data we provide to set rates, and we talked about how to improve accuracy and efficiencies for our members, so creating an online process that allows members to log in to a portal and quickly complete the form is a priority,” notes Folckemer. “Having just launched this month, we are already receiving positive responses from members.”

Rather than rely on any one program or service provider, MSMA opts instead for “best in class” providers and partners that specialize in serving public entities, adds Roberts. “I was impressed with how organized CHSI was, with their timeline, process, and ensuring they met their weekly goals. It helped the project go very smoothly, and they have been responsive to our needs.”
